Right now we need donations to pay our legal fees. Our start up cost is $5k for us to be a fully functioning non-profit organization.
I think that sounds really sick. You would be able to surf during school hours. It would help those who would want to be pro surfers. For public schools, I never heard of that before. That would be a game changer and would get more kids surfing. Maybe some kids who go home school would want to go to public schools so they could be part of a killah surf team. I just love the idea.
When I was selected for the Hawaii Surf Team this year, I was really excited. Being on a Surf team is different part of surfing I had never experienced before, and I have to say it was awesome. Just to know that you have people that want to help you and see you get better at surfing is really cool! And it made me want to work harder at progressing my surfing to the next level!
Surf teams in Hawaii are way overdue. Surfing will be a test the 2020 Olympic Games. Australia is a great example as the teams maintain their local beach along with helping keep kids active and away from trouble. The teams encourage competition which improves performance along with making surfing more of a group activity than a selfish individual pursuit. Kids in Hawaii are passionate about surfing. If it were offered in public schools, it would help to keep kids in school. Not to mention home school kids would lean back to public education just to be part of the surf team.
